Confirmed Start Date - Tuesday 7th February

Tēnā koutou e te whānau o Remuera Intermediate School

AT 1:30 pm on Wednesday 1st February we received notice from the MOE that schools that are ready and able to open may do so from tomorrow. Remuera Intermediate will remain with our revised start date of Tuesday 7th February.

The decision to remain with Tuesday the 7th February as our start date was taken for two main reasons.

The first reason is that after the initial MOE directive, we rescheduled our Teacher Only Days for later in the week to keep staff off the roads as instructed. This also gave time to those who had sustained damage to their own property to resolve any issues. Consequently, our staff have had limited access to school to prepare for the year. Staff were originally scheduled to be at school this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Secondly, initial inspections highlighted some minor damage. After further investigations, it has become apparent that this damage was more widespread and significant. We currently have four teaching spaces undergoing urgent remedial work to prepare them for Tuesday.

This decision is in line with many of our neighbouring primary schools and as such will give consistency to those families who also have young people in local primary schools.

Once again, not the start we had all hoped for but we look forward to welcoming everyone back next Tuesday ready to hit the ground running. With this in mind, we have adjusted our plans slightly to enable the day to get underway as quickly as possible.

Year 7 students will still meet in the hall with family members as planned no later than 8:45 am.

Year 8 students will need to locate their names on one of the sets of class lists posted around the school and make their way straight to their new classroom no later than 8:45 am. These lists will be posted at the main entrances and in the windows by the school hall.

We thank you for your support and understanding at this time and we hope you are all safe and relatively unaffected by the events of the past few days.

Kind regards
