Cyclone Gabrielle - School Reopening From Wednesday, 15 February 2023

We hope that this update finds your family safe and well after the hectic and wild night, we have all endured. I am delighted to report too, that all staff is safe, although some remain without power.

As you are aware the Prime Minister declared a National State of Emergency this morning, in response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Gabrielle. It appears at this early stage that Remuera Intermediate has come through relatively unscathed. Both Monday and this morning’s check of the campus found no leaks or flooding in the classrooms. There is some debris across the campus, but all of our large trees have remained intact and all buildings are in good working order.

Based on the current advice from Auckland Emergency Management and Met Service we have made the decision to reopen the school for students from tomorrow - Wednesday, February 15. We appreciate that some families may have their own matters to attend to as the cyclone dissipates. If your child will not be attending in the coming days, please send a message via the APP or the website to assist us in accounting for our young people.

We continue to urge our families to monitor and follow all advice from Auckland Emergency Management.  In the unlikely event that the Prime Minister or the Ministry of Education was to direct a school closure, a further update will be provided.

Thank you once again for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming staff and students back to school tomorrow.

Kind regards

Kyle Brewerton
