PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Reliability Integrity Service
Our school values are shared and discussed frequently with our young people. As they continue to grow and eventually head out into the world, it is these values and how they demonstrate them that will set them apart as they move into their adult working lives.
In a world that has become increasingly self-obsessed, these attributes are sadly becoming more rare.
Reliability - Do what you say you are going to do
Integrity - Do the right thing even when no one is looking
Service - Care for others in their time of need
Over these two years at Intermediate School, we see significant growth in all these areas and it is down to the combined efforts of our teachers and you, our parents and caregivers. We thank you for your continued support. Another opportunity to partner is just around the corner.
I encourage you to make time to meet with your child's teacher to share your hopes and aspirations and to hear how your child is progressing.
Kyle Brewerton
Principal/APPA President

STAFF NEWS
Last week we farewelled Julie Miller who has spent many years teaching in Year 8 and also as the Team Leader. Her input to our school and community has been huge!
Her school-wide involvement has included: leading the design of the teaching spaces within the Hub building, leading Pacifica Pride, Maths Curriculum Leader, the Boys Tongan group, Kidsvote, Mathex and a past member of ACCoS- the across school’s initiative.
Overall, her commitment to student welfare and establishing strong connections with families has been outstanding.
We wish her all the very best in what’s next.
YEAR 7 CAMPS
The Year 7 students had an amazible time at this year’s camp. Between the bus rides to and from Camp Adair, they experienced 3 days of camp challenges.
They climbed 12 meter poles, launched themselves off high beams, crawled through mud, shot targets, found their way through forests blindfolded, cooked over open fires, built rafts and flew down the mud slide. The activities weren’t the only highlights; the evening activities included a Mascot Competition, Team Puzzle Challenge and a movie night in the rec center. We all enjoyed the delicious meals and managed at least one average night’s sleep!!
There are so many people involved in the Camp organization from our office team, YMCA instructors and camp coordinators and our wonderful teachers. We would like to especially thank our parent helpers joined us for both camps. Your contribution to the success of this event is greatly appreciated, and we could not provide this exciting experience for our students without you - Mrs Megan McGaw
MULTI MATERIALS MAGIC!
Recently, students in Multi Materials have been hard at work conjuring fantastic creations from a variety of materials such as acrylic plastic and laser-cut plywood. Their projects have ranged in size from small key rings up to extra-large marble mazes. Students have also been using the school's EPRO 8 kits to create a series of pull-along contraptions which has tested their creativity and teamwork skills.
As always safe workshop practices are a key focus in this busy area of the school - Mr Symons
WHATS HAPPENING IN THE ART ROOM
Year 8, Cycle 1, has just completed their artwork based around observations of natural materials in our environment. We started off with weaving workshops with Cynthia Smith and then planned how to transform our large seed pods using glazed clay, paint, harakeke(flax) or rope whipping.
We went from this…
To this…
CZ FUTSAL BOYS
On the 6th of May a Year 7 and Year 8 boys team travelled to the CZ Boys Futsal competition. It was a very exciting and nerve-racking day but both teams represented RI exceptionally.
The Year 8’s with some experience from last year remained cool calm and collected through the day taking out 1st place and only conceding 3 goals against them. It was new territory for the Year 7’s, some never playing Futsal before, however they took on the rules and the pressure of the day. Their final game was a hard loss, especially as they had won against the same team in their pool matches, placing them 2nd for the day. I was extremely proud of how the boys supported each other throughout the day and showed outstanding sportsmanship.
Thank you to all the parents who came on the day to support the boys. Both teams will be travelling to Interzones later in the term - Miss Alysha Powell
BLUES BEST FOOT FORWARD
In association with the Blues, Remuera Intermediate will be collecting used rugby/football boots to help those children who are unable to join in sports due to a lack of gear.
If you have any used rugby/football boots that still have some life left, please bring them into school before May 20th and place in the labelled bin that will be in the Ascot Avenue foyer.
Please ensure the boots are tied together using the laces.
Thank you for your contribution that will allow more kids to get involved in sport.
