PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

As 2023 draws to a close, I wanted to acknowledge the support, contribution and commitment demonstrated throughout the year by you, our RI community. A point of discussion between principals often centres around community interactions. I am always proud to share how positive and supportive our community is.

During the build-up to elections and during pay negotiations for teachers, you will have no doubt heard many comments regarding the dire state of education in New Zealand. Whilst this may well be the case for some pockets of New Zealand, we as a school community can be proud of our achievements. I firmly believe that the strength of our community combined with quality schooling has provided a partnership that has ensured we have a group of young people who are thriving in their education and as young people in general.

As you prepare for the holidays I wish you and your family all the very best and hope you have a safe and fun-filled break with loved ones. To our year 8 families who are moving on, we trust your time at RI has been a time you will cherish for years to come.

Take care and go well.

Kind regards,

Kyle Brewerton
Principal/APPA President

DANCE SHOWCASE 2023

Our dedicated RI dancers have poured their hearts into each routine, perfecting their techniques and expressing their individuality through the power of dance. With unwavering commitment and passion, they have taken on the challenge of mastering a wide range of styles.

The energy, creativity and unity of our dance troupes have not only left a lasting impression on the school community but have also enriched the lives of each participant. We’ve seen them grow not only as dancers but as individuals, fostering discipline, teamwork and self-expression along the way.

ATHLETICS

Central Zones Athletics

On Wednesday 22nd November, a large team of 57 Athletes competed at the Central Zone Athletics Competition, which was held at Mount Smart Stadium. We had an amazing day and all the students who competed did so with enthusiasm, skill and determination.

There were some outstanding results achieved, with a large number of athletes gaining a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their event. It was so great to see our students cheering each other on from the stands and demonstrating high levels of sportsmanship with their fellow competitors.

CZ RESULTS

CRICKET NEWS

Girls Cricket Tournament

The RI Girls Cricket team played in a T16 competition at Parnell Cricket Club on the 28th of November. The tournament run by PCC and supported by girls from Epsom Girls Grammar was run to promote girl's cricket and keep growing the sport.

In the day's first game, we came up against Baradene. We batted first and set a solid total of 121. We were proud of our efforts as this was the first game of cricket for some of our girls. With a solid bowling attack, we managed to keep Baradene at bay for a convincing win.

In game two we played St Kents and again had a very solid performance scoring runs and taking wickets to secure another comfortable win. At the Prize Giving, Ruby Chenery won MVP with the bat and received a new cricket bat. Pippy Lees received an award for Spirit of Cricket.

Boys Cricket Tournament

The RI Boys Cricket team played in a T20 competition at Sacred Heart College on Thursday 30th November.  The morning game was against Kings Prep 1st XI. RI batted first, setting a tough score to chase of 161, with great batting from the whole team.

The RI bowlers were exemplary, and with several incredible catches, and bowling accuracy, the wickets fell, and Kings were all out for 107. A convincing win for RI by 54 runs.

In the afternoon RI faced the St Kent's 1st XI. RI set another high score of 153 with superb batting. The bowling from RI was once again brilliant with the wickets falling and more amazing catches.  After 20 overs St Kents had scored 120 runs, so another convincing win to RI.

The boys had a very enjoyable and successful day.  A big thank you to Sacred Heart College for hosting the teams, the gazebos for shelter, and the sausage sizzle.

DONATING USED UNIFORM

Students can bring them to the school foyer during the last few days of school or they can be placed in the drop-off bin in the school car park near the hall, during the school holidays.
