DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

STAY HEALTHY AND CARING THIS WINTER SEASON

As the winter months approach, it is important to prioritise our well-being and take preventive measures to combat the flu and cold season. Our school community's health is our utmost concern, and we ask for your support in keeping everyone safe. We would like to emphasise the importance of staying home if your child is feeling unwell.

When a student falls ill, it not only impacts their own recovery but also poses a risk to others. By keeping unwell students at home, we can minimise the spread of germs and create a healthier environment for all.

To ensure you have access to accurate and up-to-date information about flu symptoms, prevention, and treatment, we recommend regularly checking the Ministry of Health website.  This valuable resource provides detailed guidelines to keep you informed and equipped during the winter season. Remember, knowledge is power, and staying informed can greatly contribute to maintaining good health. Please access the links at the bottom of this message for further information.

Additionally, we encourage everyone to adopt healthy habits such as regular handwashing, proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and covering coughs and sneezes. These simple yet effective practices can make a significant difference in preventing the spread of illnesses.

Let's work together to create a healthy environment for all members of our school community. By prioritizing our well-being and taking proactive measures, we can ensure a productive and enjoyable winter season.

Thank you for your continued support.

Tom Beckett
Deputy Principal

2023 SCIENCE ROADSHOW

The Science Roadshow held on May 25th and 26th was a captivating event for students. With engaging shows on materials and sound, the demonstrators blended entertainment and education. The hands-on exhibits provided an immersive learning experience, allowing students to explore scientific principles through their own discoveries. This event hopefully sparked a newfound passion for science in every attendee, providing an exciting journey into the fascinating world of scientific wonders.

PINK SHIRT DAY 2023

On Friday 19th May R I took part in the Nationwide Event Pink Shirt Day in support of building awareness of anti-bullying. The vast majority of students participated in turning our school into a sea of many shades of pink. Students who took part donated a gold coin and through this, we raised over $1,000 which we are donating to Youthline.

A very big thank you to the Student Council for organising, supporting and promoting this event and a special mention to Mikayla Gulick who was our lead teacher at school.

IN THE ART ROOM

The new cycle of year 8’s is about to start a series of printing techniques and collage them together. The first technique is an etching plate.

Olivia Leota is trialing to transfer her etching plate into an ink print. More challenging than it looks.

KIDS LIT QUIZ

Do you know which insect shared its light in ‘James and the Giant Peach’?

In the book series ‘Series of Unfortunate Events’, what does V.F.D. stand for?

May was Lit Quiz month. Two teams of librarians, aka avid readers, represented RI in the 2023 heats, with a great reserve to fill in if necessary. There were lots of prizes and we were very excited to see they were $5 or $10 cash prizes! The Lit Quiz felt like a sport which made it really fun. The quiz master, Wayne Mills, has been running it for over 30 years and is into challenging questions from a wide range of books. We all had a lot of fun and had an amazing experience, with a strong element of competition. Both teams had an impressive extent of reading knowledge and attempted to answer 100 extraordinary questions within ten categories. Both teams were really proud of themselves and the results that they accomplished. We would really recommend going, if you ever get the chance. It was immense fun and a great experience for us.

Team 1 - Robbie Baker, Quin Bradley, Isla Thomson, Isabel Wong
Team 2 - Sam Coburn, Harriet Russel, Vishak Sivakumar, Emily Xie
Reserve - Aikantika Banerjee
