Cheers and Chats - Parents Meet Teachers!

Imagine a school buzzing with excitement as parents stroll in, ready to meet their child's guides for the year. That was the scene at our school on Wednesday night, and boy, was it heartwarming! Parents mingled with teachers, sharing laughs and stories like old friends catching up. It was a chance to connect faces with the names kids bring home daily.

In classrooms, conversations flowed about everything from math homework to funny class moments. It wasn't just about the daily expectations, it was also about building a team to support our kids. Some parents felt a wave of nostalgia, seeing their own school days reflected in the halls. Others admired the colorful artwork, a testament to their child's creativity. As the evening wrapped up, there was a sense of gratitude in the air. Grateful for the chance to bond, to learn, and to shape our children's future together.

So here's to more cheers, chats, and collaborations ahead. Our school and our parents make a great team, and we can't wait to see what we'll achieve together!

Kyle Brewerton
Principal/APPA President

YEAR 8 STUDENTS IN THE GARDEN

The recent warm dry weather has been perfect for restocking our school's gardens with veggie seedlings. Year 8 Garden to Table students have been preparing the garden beds for planting; weeding, digging in compost, planting, watering and protecting the plants from pests.
The photos below show students from Rooms 2, 3, 4 & 5 planting beetroot, broccoli, cauliflower, curly kale, parsley, spinach and brown onions.

If you or someone in your family is keen to help our gardeners please contact Mrs Sonja Potter at sonjap@remint.school.nz

YEAR 8 STUDENTS HARVESTING AND COOKING

Last week, students from Rooms 23, 24 & 25 dug up a box full of Desiree potatoes in their veggie patch. This week they learned to cook potatoes in 6 different ways, honing their knife and stove appliance skills at the same time.
Potato recipes included mashed Potatoes, Hash Browns, Wedges, Greek-style Roasted Potatoes, Potato Salad, and Scalloped Potatoes. A delicious spud feast.

YEAR 8 WATERWISE

On Tuesday Feb 20, Room 25 embarked on an EOTC (education outside the classroom) experience at Orakei Basin.

The waterwise program in year 8 allows students to learn about safety on the water through various water sports including Kayaking, Standup Paddleboarding, Sailing and Windsurfing. These experiences are all run by very capable men and women from Youth Town and students got to experience three of the 4 sports on offer.

Fun and learning were had by all - the wind was sufficient for some minor league opti-racing in the sailing boats as well as plenty of kids drifting downwind if they stopped paddling for too long. Most chose to jump into the water at some point - whether that be purposefully from the super-sized multi-person stand-up paddleboard, accidental kayak capsizes, or a sailing mishap that flipped the boat upside down.

All in all, it was a fun, safe, and educational experience! - Mr Alaric Nicholls

Room 6 students participated in activities including Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Sailing and Windsurfing on Feb 6.
For many, it was their first experience of these activities and they had a great time out in the sun learning new skills. - Mr Alan Whitehouse
