PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Time to Shine

Recently the media has highlighted some disappointing news involving young people. This has concerned such issues as school attendance, poor achievement and increases in youth crime. As I have shared on many occasions, I am extremely proud of our young people and the attitude, effort and achievement they have demonstrated here at Remuera Intermediate. The vast majority have continued to exemplify our values of Reliability, Integrity and Service.

Last night’s prizegiving was a time to acknowledge and recognise those who have shone the brightest throughout this past year. As in life, not everyone can be at the front of the line all of the time however, it is important to celebrate success and acknowledge what it takes to stand out among the crowd. Whilst for many of our young people this may not be their night, there is significant value in supporting and congratulating peers when they are successful. This is particularly important here in New Zealand as we do sometimes have a habit of being less than complimentary toward our ‘tall poppies’.

In addition to celebrating outstanding academic, sporting and artistic achievements, we also acknowledge those who have demonstrated a strength of character in all aspects of school life. Along with strong achievement, it is this strength of character that will stand our young people in good stead for the future regardless of the path they choose.

Congratulations to everyone who was acknowledged at this years prizegiving and I hope to see you all shining brightly in the future.

Kyle Brewerton
Principal

TALENT QUEST 2022

On the 17th of November, 16 brave acts took to the brightly lit stage of the RI hall in what turned out to be an extraordinary display of talent and bravery. From quick fingers playing pianos, flutes and solving rubix cubes, to swift choreographed dance moves and beautiful singing voices, the 2022 Talent quest was a feast of entertaining acts.

Our auspicious judges (Pip Faulknor, Krya Aoake and Venice Qin) had a hard time selecting the winners from this variety of talent, however 3rd place went to Stella’s beautiful rendition of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ and 2nd place to Ruby Yang for her serene and moving playing of a traditional Chinese instrument called a Gu zheng. 1st place went to Amelie and friends, who through a combination of exceptional piano playing, storytelling, dance and singing thoroughly entertained the audience. A big shout out to our fabulous hosts of the evening, Ashton Nunn, Tevita Maliepo, Tali Johnston and Eden Clyma.

Results:
1st: Amelie, Christine, Ilona, Adelaide and Amy
2nd: Ruby Yang
3rd: Stella Duckmanton

Judges choice: Sameer Khemlani, Isabella Zheng, Kairangi & Rawinia

RI ANNUAL PRIZEGIVING

RI’s Annual Prizegiving was held on Thursday 24th November at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell. The Prizegiving recognizes those students across both years 7 and 8, who have achieved excellence across the year in the areas of academic achievement, effort and attitude, and citizenship. The evening is also an acknowledgment of the 2 years spent at our school, signaling the end of the primary school years. Despite the wild weather and typical Auckland traffic, the evening turned out to be a spectacular affair. Congratulation to all Year 8 and award winners!!
