PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
The Value of Community in Raising Our Young People
It is often said that “it takes a village to raise a child,” and nowhere is this truer than in our school and surrounding community. Together, we have the unique opportunity to shape the lives of the next generation, fostering not only academic success but also kindness, resilience, and a sense of belonging in our young people.
As parents, teachers, and neighbours, we are all part of this “village,” and our collective influence can make an incredible difference in how our children grow and thrive.
When young people feel connected to a caring community, they are more likely to develop confidence and positive values. Whether it’s a teacher encouraging a student to pursue a talent, a neighbour supporting a local sports team, or a parent volunteering at school events, these small actions teach children that they are valued and supported.
A strong community shows young people the importance of teamwork, empathy, and looking out for one another. These are lessons they carry for a lifetime.
As we look to the year ahead, whether that be here or at their next school, what can we do to work together for the sake of our young ones?
- Be Involved: Attend school events, volunteer if possible, and stay informed about what’s happening in in your young person’s life in and out of school.
- Celebrate Achievements: Recognise not just academic success but also acts of kindness and creativity or personal achievement.
- Offer Support: If you see your young person struggling, lend a hand or simply listen. Small gestures can have a big impact. Take them for a drive or go for a walk, it’s amazing how much more willing they are to talk when they’re not sitting face to face.
- Build Connections: Reach out to neighbours, teachers, and other parents. Strong relationships among adults strengthen the community as a whole and provides great role modelling for our young people.
Raising young people is a shared responsibility, and every one of us has an important role to play. Together, we can create a supportive, uplifting environment that helps our children grow into confident, compassionate, and capable individuals.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey. We look forward to continuing this partnership together to nurture the bright futures of our young people.

The delicious food and thoughtful gestures truly showcased the warmth and generosity of our parent community.
Your support means so much to us, and it was wonderful to see the smiles your kindness brought to our teachers. Moments like these remind us of the strong partnership we share in nurturing and supporting our school community.

CZ MIXED AND BOYS TOUCH
The CZ Mixed Touch team had a wonderful day out at Cox’s Bay Reserve. After a tough couple of losses to start the day, the team pulled themselves up and started to really work together as a unit. They showed some great skill and teamwork, with some players really stepping up to direct play and pull off some impressive moves that led to several tries.
After a few more round robin games the team finished with 3 wins and 3 losses, coming a very respectable 4. They all represented Remuera Intermediate with pride and determination while displaying excellent sportsmanship, of which they should all be proud.

The weather was perfect at Cox's Bay Reserve for an action-packed day for the boys’ touch rugby team. We started with a thrilling 4-4 draw against a strong Waikowhai side, who later became runners-up. Without a break, we secured a solid 6-2 win over Balmoral to qualify for the playoffs. The quarter-final against Auckland Normal Intermediate was intense, with a last-minute try pushing the match to sudden death.
Despite our efforts, we fell 4-3 to ANI. In the next game, against Kowhai, we faced another sudden death after a tie but lost 4-3 again.
We wrapped up the day with a 6-3 victory, finishing 7th and celebrating under the sun. The boys showcased exceptional teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout.

ATHLETICS DAY
COMPETITIVE
On Wednesday, 6th November, students from Remuera Intermediate School competed at Lloyd Elsmore Park in the Competitive Athletics competition.
Participants took part in a range of running and field events.The day was filled with determination and spirit as students worked hard to achieve personal bests and support one another.
It was a great display of effort, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.
Successful students from the competition moved on to compete at the Central Zone competition.
NON - COMPETITIVE
Back at school, around 500 students took part in a variety of non-competitive athletics activities. We played tug of war, raced in sacks, competed in Rob the Nest, battled it out in King Ball, and so much more! The event was all about friendly competition and having fun. It was a great day and endless laughter and cheers filled the school grounds, showing our school spirit and the joy of being active together.
Congratulations to Rooms 9 and Room 30 who won the class competitions!
CZ ATHLETICS
On Wednesday 20th November, a large team of 52 Athletes competed in Central Zone Athletics, which was held at Mount Smart Stadium.
We had an amazing day and all the students who completed did so with enthusiasm, skill and determination. There were some outstanding results achieved, with many athletes gaining a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their event.
It was so great to see our students cheering each other on from the stands and dealing with challenging conditions. The athletes coped well with changes and races being rerun.

On Thursday 28th November 23 students went on to participate in the Auckland Interzone Champion of Champions Athletics event. Once again all athletes competed with pride, determination and excellence.
To qualify for this event is a massive achievement and all those who participated should be extremely proud of themselves. A huge congratulations to the athletes who placed at this event.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS ART EXHIBITION
These students have won top art awards at the Middle Schools Art exhibition where 26 Intermediate and Middle schools entered over 500 pieces of art down at the Silos, Wynyard Quarter.
Athena Delfinado - 2nd equal in the 2D People Choice award.
Enara Maddumage - 1st in the 3D section for the People Choice Award.
LEWIS EADY GUITAR PERFORMANCE
The Year 7 and Year 8 guitar performance showcased impressive teamwork and skill. Students played a mix of contemporary and classical pieces, their synchronised strumming showed off their dedication and practice!!!

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE 2024
This year, Remuera Intermediate participated in the First Lego League (FLL) for the very first time, and what a journey it’s been. After weeks of preparation in the DigiTech Lab, students competed in the RI Internals, where they programmed robots using Lego Spike Prime to tackle underwater-themed challenges inspired by this year’s theme, “Submerged”. It was amazing to see their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in action. From this event, two teams were selected to represent our school at the Auckland Regional Competition, held at Bucklands Beach Intermediate.
At the regionals, our students went up against tough competition, including experienced teams and even high school participants. Despite the challenges, they showed incredible determination, positivity, and teamwork, which didn’t go unnoticed by the judges and organisers.
We’re thrilled to share that one of our teams has qualified for the National Tournament, an incredible achievement in our very first year. Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and enthusiasm. We’re excited to cheer them on at Nationals."

GIRLS CRICKET
Our girls' cricket team recently competed in the Parnell Cricket Club Girls' Competition. In their first match, they faced a strong Baradene team and gave it their all but came up short.
Determined to bounce back, they brought their A-game to the second match against ANI, securing an impressive victory. A fantastic effort by the team!
DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA 2024
What an amazing start to the day at the Remuera Intermediate Dance Extravaganza! Our talented students wowed us with twelve outstanding dance troupes, each showcasing their unique style and energy.
The hall was filled with excitement as the dancers took the stage, demonstrating the incredible dedication and hard work they’ve put into their training this year.
From hip-hop to contemporary, every performance sparkled with creativity and passion.
A big congratulations to all the dancers for making this event a truly special one—we’re already looking forward to next year’s show!
RI SERVICE WEEK
The Social Changency earlier in term 4 gave encouragement to all of the classroom teachers to brainstorm ideas that they could initiate during week 6 as a part of our RI Service Week.
This has been a tradition at Remuera Intermediate for the past several years. It has been a way for students to appreciate helping out around school, offering service to their teachers and other staff and generally creating an overall atmosphere of kindness and generosity.
Mr Zemke and The Social Changency is really grateful to those classes that were able to fit in, giving some time to a service initiative in their busy classroom timetables.

EPro8 COMPETITION
We’re proud to share the fantastic news that Remuera Intermediate had an outstanding finish in this year’s EPro8 competition.
RI Digits delivered an exceptional performance, winning first place in the Grand Final and bringing home the championship title. Their creativity, teamwork, and determination were truly outstanding. Congratulations to Laura Allan, Finley Connor, Finn Walker, and Will Ranger for their impressive achievement.
Epro9 also performed admirably, showcasing their skills in the semi-finals but narrowly missing out on a spot in the final. Amelia Zhou, Aarnav Singh, Connor Beekhuizen, and Peter Norman showcased determination and creativity throughout the competition.
Congratulations to both teams for their dedication and success - especially to RI Digits for their well-deserved victory.

Our children’s safety is of paramount importance to us. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, at 9:45 am if your child has not been marked as Present we will send out a text notification to alert you of his/her absence.
We are aware many parents are simply very busy people and forget to notify the school so please respond with a Y and a reason for the absence/lateness.
Respond with an N if you have dropped your child at school or know that he/she was coming to school and we can investigate this promptly.
Should your mobile number change, please notify the school immediately so that we can update our records accordingly.
